The first time I used ChatGPT 3.5, I had loads of fun with it, trying to ask all sorts of questions, both sensible and otherwise. I found it to be extremely polite and answering in the most politically correct manner. Initially, I was impressed with it until I asked it to solve for x in the equation 2^x + 8^x = 135, and it couldn’t figure out how to solve it. That was when I decided to get the paid version 4.0 just to see how much better it is compared to the free one.
Well, it was like night and day. As one colleague commented, it was like comparing a primary school student to a post graduate. I say it’s even more than that, probably like a kindergartner versus a university professor. That’s how good ChatGPT 4.0 is. Getting stuck with ChatGPT 3.5 is one of the main reasons that many fail to see the power of large language models (LLMs) used by these chatbots. Since then, I’ve never looked back and only use ChatGPT 3.5 for testing and comparison purposes.
Then came Claude 3.0 Opus, which blew me away with its accuracy in generating code. This was the turning point for me in code generation, as I am now able to write fully functional and sophisticated code just by proper prompting. It was Claude 3 Opus that helped me set up my website and maintain it every day.
But just recently, OpenAI announced that they have already released ChatGPT 4.0 Turbo, which on some benchmarks already shows that it has overtaken the top spot again. It’s still too early to say though, and I still like using Claude 3 Opus a lot.
So if you are one of those who have tried using ChatGPT 3.5 and were disappointed with the results you were getting, aside from the funny responses that made you giggle, do sign up for a paid version and you’ll understand what I mean. While ChatGPT 4.0 and Claude 3 Opus have changed the game, the race has just started. Expect even more capable models in the days to come.
