Today was a rather slow Monday, possibly due to the upcoming mid-week holiday on Wednesday. The day at the office dragged on, and I had to stay late to complete my homework for last week’s module in the professional course I’m attending. By the time I got home, it was already past 8 PM.
As I reached for the PS5 remote to unwind with some FC24 matches, my son surprised me by asking if we could play together. This was a pleasant surprise since he hadn’t shown much interest in playing with me before, possibly because we limit his gaming to weekends, prohibiting Roblox on the computer or the Meta Quest during school days.
He chose to play as France with Mbappe, while I picked the Argentinian squad led by Messi. Despite allowing him many chances on goal, my keeper seemed determined not to let any through, and the match ended in a draw. As it was getting late, we didn’t have time for a rematch, and it was time for him to head to bed.
Just before he went to his room, he whispered to me, “Daddy, let’s play again tomorrow.” I replied with a playful challenge, “I’ll make sure I win.” He responded confidently, “We’ll see,” before heading off to bed.
This unexpected gaming session with my son turned an otherwise uneventful Monday into a memorable evening. It’s moments like these that remind me of the importance of quality time with family, even if it’s just a quick game of FC24. I’m looking forward to our next match and the friendly rivalry that’s sure to ensue. Who knows, maybe this will become a regular father-son bonding activity!
