Today, one of those simple pleasures is baking fresh bread. There’s nothing quite like the smell and taste of a warm, homemade bun on a Saturday morning. Paired with a hot cup of coffee, it’s the perfect way to start the weekend.
Baking bread connects us to generations past. It’s a reminder to slow down and appreciate the simple things in life. In our busy, technology-driven world, taking the time to make something nourishing with our own hands feels wonderfully grounding.
Speaking of simple joys, yesterday I used one of my favourite fountain pens to do some journaling. In this digital age, putting pen to paper is an almost meditative act. Watching the ink flow as I move the nib across the page helps me focus my thoughts and be more thoughtful with my words.
Using a fountain pen also brings a certain old-school charm and elegance. While technology has undoubtedly made writing more efficient, there’s still something special about crafting a handwritten note. Maybe it’s the extra care and personality that comes through. Or maybe I’m just old-fashioned at heart.
As much as I enjoy these traditional pursuits, I can’t help but think about how they contrast with my fascination for cutting-edge artificial intelligence. AI is evolving rapidly and the potential applications are both exciting and overwhelming. As someone working in this space, I feel a responsibility to carefully consider the implications and steer the technology in a direction that genuinely benefits us.
But even as I ponder these big ideas, I’m reminded of the importance of balance. Baking, writing, going for a run – these “in between” activities are what keep me centered amidst the swirl of technology and innovation. They provide a necessary counterpoint to all the mental work and screen time.
So here’s to homemade bread, and taking the time to enjoy life’s simple pleasures. The world may be changing quickly, but it’s the fundamentals that sustain us.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a fresh-baked bread to enjoy and a mug of coffee that needs refilling. Onwards and upwards, my friends – but don’t forget to savor the in-betweens.
